Eternit is a roofing material made of asbestos-free fiber cement, which complies with the European standard EN 494:2012 and fire hazard class A2-s1,d0. Eternit corrugated sheet, popular in Estonia and other Baltic countries, is known for its durability: a correctly installed Eternit roof lasts for over 40 years and can withstand at least 150 freeze-thaw cycles (according to the manufacturer Eternit Baltic / Etex Group). Since asbestos has been replaced with PVA fiber, which is safe for health, since the 1990s, modern Eternit is environmentally friendly and safe. Eternit corrugated sheets are manufactured in different sizes and colors, which makes this maintenance-free solution suitable for private houses, outbuildings, and production buildings. What is eternit and how does it differ from previous solutions? Eternit or fiber cement corrugated sheet is a roofing material that consists of cement, cellulose fiber, water and mineral additives. Unlike earlier sheets that contained asbestos, PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) fibers are used for reinforcement today, which improve crack resistance. The result is a durable, weather- and fire-resistant product that is suitable for the changeable climate of Estonia. The weight of one square meter of Eternit roof ranges from 13 to 18 kg, depending on the profile of the sheet, which is significantly lighter than concrete stone (over 40 kg/m²) and is therefore also suitable for lighter roof structures. Eternit corrugated sheet – a practical and authentic choice for the roof Eternit corrugated sheets are available in several different sizes, profiles and colors, allowing them to be adapted to both new construction and renovated buildings. Thanks to their corrugated profile, the sheets have a good load-bearing capacity, which means fewer rafters and easier installation. Main advantages: Long-lasting – a correctly installed Eternit roof lasts for over 40 years (manufacturer's warranty up to 30 years, Eternit Baltic) Sound-absorbing – the noise level of fiber cement corrugated sheets during heavy rain and hail is approximately 64 dB, which is up to 20 dB lower than a tin roof Fire-resistant – meets fire hazard class A2-s1,d0 (non-combustible material according to EN 13501-1) Frost resistant – withstands at least 150 freeze-thaw cycles according to standard EN 494 Environmentally friendly – does not emit toxic substances, recyclable Durable – meets the requirements for bending strength according to EN 494, resistant to rusting and corrosion Eternit sale – what is worth knowing before buying? Eternit is sold in Estonia both in specialized building materials stores and on online platforms. Before purchasing, it is important to map out: Roof area and, if possible, slope angle (minimum permissible slope depends on the manufacturer: Eternit Baltic – 7°, Fibrodah – 10°) Required size and quantity of corrugated sheets (consider 15–19% overlap loss) Need for installation accessories – screws, safety equipment, grommets, etc. Delivery conditions and storage When storing, eternit must be kept in dry conditions, protected from precipitation. The temporary packaging film used during transport must be removed. Eternit prices – what does the final price depend on? Eternit prices vary depending on the manufacturer, size and colour of the sheet. As of 2025, corrugated sheets will be priced between €7 and €16/m² (excluding VAT), making it one of the most affordable long-lasting roofing materials on the market. For comparison: metal roofing starts at €10/m² and concrete tiles at €15/m². Factors affecting the price: Colored tiles are more expensive than uncolored ones (price difference approx. 20–30%) Larger tiles may be cheaper per square meter Manufacturer and country of origin (Lithuanian Eternit vs Ukrainian Fibrodah) Delivery and installation costs Who is Eternit suitable for? Eternit is a suitable solution for those looking for: Long-lasting and durable roofing (40+ years) Low maintenance solution A roof that muffles the sounds of rain and wind Inexpensive but proven material Eternit is widely used in private homes, garden houses, industrial buildings and even public buildings. It is also a suitable solution for the renovation of historical buildings where the traditional appearance is desired.
